Re: Nogsteeds die overheating probleem
Ek dink n bumper speel n baie groot rol as dit kom by die verkoeling.

Louis - Please post a photo of your vehicle from the front.
I can not see properly from your profile pic but it looks the same as mine and we did a mod to the number plate position for this exact reason.

Re: Nogsteeds die overheating probleem
Sorry, we seem to have to discussions going on at once here.
I agree that air flow plays a big role.
At sleeds over say 60-80km/h, bumpers, scoops, and ducting can make a huge difference.
But the symptoms Nico described, lugging through thick sand and so forth, i doubt it.
Here you eed a powerful fan and good air flow through the radiator itself and any additional radiators placed directly in front of it, such as A/C condensors and intercoolers.
Having additional electric fans in front can help, but they need to be very powerful and efficient.
We need to bear in mind that, especially on the older cars, the cooling system is pretty marginal at best and the system needs to be in excellent condition to cope with hard work in hot weather.

Re: Nogsteeds die overheating probleem
Here is the Front of my Patrol. I Just set my Timing aswell and i don't hear any ping noises anymore. Got her to 80km in 5th gear up a hill and don't hear anything. Tried to get it to heat up but like i said earlier, it only starts after about 150km or so.
We are coming to Pretoria this weekend so i will see what she does.

Also you will see on the 1st pic that came out sideways, some water under the car, its not my cars water :) Not hating on anyone but there was a Hilux that needed a radiator fix parked in that spot :)

Louis - I think 1 thing at a time or you will never know what caused it. Timing is done so carry some spanners on your trip. If it continues to heat up then remove those spots and see if that makes a difference.
I like Fanus's idea about doing the same as Michael and then put your number plate on hinges over the fairlead.
