1996 Patrol 4.2 SGL parts availability

Hi all. I'm not a Patrol owner yet, but hopefully within the next few days I'll be behind the wheel of a classic....if I get good feedback from the experts:) Looking at a 1996 sgl petrol, one owner, well maintained, although fair bit of rust on roof railings (selling price plus obvious fixes, around 70K). If I buy it, I'll replace a few rubber bits around the windows/doors, source some knoppies/levers, etc plus perhaps a few unforeseen mechanical things we'd expect from a car this age. Nissan says they can't find the Y60 on their system, so the parts guy said they'd have to order from "outside". My question is whether it'll be an easy project to get this vehicle into pristine condition again or not. I want this truck to shine and will not be abusing it off road....well, that's my intention. Also, besides the fuel bill, is it a relatively cheap vehicle to maintain?

Welcome

Like for real classic cars, there is a "network", where most anything can be sourced.

However, it sounds t me as if there is too much wrong here to justify the asking price of R70k. Rust around the roof gutters is a hell of a job to fix! Just ask Andre Thuinsma.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Asking price is 55K, plus 8K-ish rust and dent fixes, 4500 two new tyres, a few rubber bits and pieces, plus good valet = about 70K. Too much? If so I need to bargain a bit more. Although price was already dropped by 10K. What the vehicle has going for it is the 1 owner, full service record, no offroad history. Rust is unfortunate, otherwise it would have been a sweet deal I reckon.

Please don't ask. I've always assumed that this was a family-friendly forum. Despite Stefaan and Cedric permanently trying to drag the conversations to the gutter (ie: racks etc...)... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:
