Herrie the PCV is working fine. Also inspected the MAF and cleaned it with carb cleaner. The Patrol seems to be idling and running a bit smoother, but time will tell. I did notice that the plastic connectors of the exhaust probes have melted at some point and may not be functioning properly. They were clearly too close to the viper branches at some point. I'll be replacing those soon. 63mm exhaust going in some time this week.

I average 6kms/litre in the country/highways at average 120km/hr, and my town driving ave = 5kms/ltr
Towing 3 ton boat = 3 kms/ltr!

Some feedback before and after the fitment of the 63mm freeflow system:

Second tank of fuel - 3.96km/l or 25.28l/100km (before 63mm)
Third tank of fuel - 5.29km/l or 18.87l/100km (after 63mm)

The exhaust system has clearly made a difference and the third tank is not done yet. The fuel light has just come on. Time will tell as the third tank was used on a round trip including PE, Addo, Zuurberg Pass a few times and back to PE. The Patrol was loaded with +-300kg of gear and 3 people for the trip. A mix of 120km/h highway, 100km/h rural roads and 40 - 60km/h gravel roads.

I can live with 5km/l, but the upcoming service, replacement of oxygen sensor connectors and cruise control modification should also improve fuel consumption.

I also had a "freeflow exhaust" fitted... at best it did not make a positive difference in consumption. Actually i would say that consumption rather increased to 18-20 liter / 100 km.
What seams to have made a difference is a bottle of injector cleaner which I added to the tank couple of fillings ago. Consumption on the open road dropped from about 18l/100km to ~ 16l/100km.

I am going to give that a try this weekend when I fill up and will give feedback as well. I find it is difficult to determine consumption with a 4x4 vehicle as some people do low-range 4x4ing more often than others, and that can give huge variances in figures. I'm hoping to get 5km/l on this current tank considering we did Kungwini last month and the rest has been town driving. Longer trips and half-loaded (ie weekend getaways to Warmbaths) I can note 6km/l @ 100 - 110km/h.

My 4.5 get 4.8-5km/l regardless if driving town stop-start or freeway .....
Think I must have it checked out.

Fanus - That consumption is about right. I have a theory that a constant amount of fuel gets pumped into the 4.5's inlet and it uses what it requires. Fully loaded with roofrack and boat is the same as empty on the open road or in town. Slight variance in low range as I got 4.6 on the River Trip after 4 days of low range.

The only time I have seen a big difference is a trip that I did to Durban and I was unloaded, no roof rack and not in a hurry and got 6. Other unloaded long distance trips have been 5.

And I have ceramic coated branches, freeflow, different air filter with snorkel and polished inlet manifold. Running on 285/75/16 AT's.

Think I am just jealous of the 4.5 owners claiming 6-7km/ liter on the freeway...
P.s. My 4.5 also feels a bit underpowerded, part of the reason I want to have it checked out. It takes effort for mine to do 130km/l.

A colleague told me an interesting story about a Landcruiser with V8-engine: it would use 21l/100km regardless wether in town, overland, with trailer or whatever.
That suggests the theory that basically a certain amount of fuel is thrown into the cylinders and either it is used for thrust or not.

May average (4.5 GRX) is 18.6l/100 with a range of 15 (KNP, one time even a bit better) and 22l/100km.

All with a light gas foot and driving with brain on.
