Re: TD42 engine assembly
What did you pay for the head gasket and head bolts? And what thickness headgasket are you going to use? I think to the plastic covers you are referring to the wheel arches?

Re: TD42 engine assembly
My piston hight above block is 0.16mm so Im going to go for the 1.20mm gasket. I have not yet bought the gasket or head bolts as I am really having trouble with my aunt at Nissan and am considering buying parts form Masterparts in Cape Town.
Correct yes its the wheel arches I am refering to. They all were painted before and needs some work at the moment.

Re: TD42 engine assembly
Ai thats a pitty, I'd be carefull about buying the head gasket elsewhere rather use genuine. Speak to mark white nissan in fourways jhb, they actually give discount too. The head bolts I think are safe to buy basically anywhere, as is for the intake and exhaust manifold gasket. My motor is being reopend today due to either the new head or head gasket leaking and the head bolts never being replaced!

Re: TD42 engine assembly
I will keep you posted, and if I eventually figure out how to load pics with my nokia I'll add pics of what has failed too. I should know by this afternoon, I've taken the patrol to the enginering shop who did the sleeves and top to remove everything again so if its human error in the sense of not having replaced the head bolts or a rubbish head gasket or sleeve protrusion then they can't argue. I really hope its not a cracked head again! Cost me R12000.

Re: TD42 engine assembly
Here are the torque specs for the TD42T engine that I found on the net, would like to compare with ricster's manual

Re: TD42 engine assembly
Micheal.... That looks like the correct settings. That 110 deg +/- 10 deg is the real bliksem, but you then know exactly that the torque is right. cause if you don't do that final turn when using a torque wrench in one fluid movement, you then may get the torque wrench clicking before the correct torque is reached. Trust me here, but its not always easy to do it in one fluid movement. By doing it this way you can see exactly how far the bolt has turned..... Piece of mind is a fantastic reality !!!

Re: TD42 engine assembly
I would recommend one of these when torqueing the head. I think any decent tool place will sell one

Re: TD42 engine assembly
Ek het oor die naweek nog so bietjie werk aan die Patrol gedoen.
Ek het die neus oor geverf omdat die verf baie beskadig was en die bonnet n klein duikie in gehad het....... toe verf ek sommer die rims ook
