2006 Nissan Patrol 4.8 stalling at lower RPM
Hi guys,
I seem to have multiple issues with my Patrol. I have tried a few mechanics, ended up spending a lot of money but could not get them to fix it for me. It's a 2006 Nissan patrol 4.8 petrol. The only mod is a K&N air intake system installed.
Here are some of the observed issues.
The vehicle requires enormous amount of acceleration to get the vehicle moving from stand still. If I accelerate moderately the vehicle struggles and jerks but forward movement becomes very slow.
In soft sand or when climbing sand dunes the vehicles so badly and barely makes it up the dune.
At one point I tried drive across a dune from the side. As I was driving across the vehicles started losing power and took me straight down instead of going in a straight line.
Hill climbing also I have similar situations where the vehicle struggle to get up there. The vehicle also takes time to accelerate. When you push the pedal from a stop light the vehicle roars and jerks and starts off slow like as if it's stalling. But then once the RPM goes up to 3k it jumps and moves ahead fast. This issue is always there with all the gears.
Due to this issue I have to accelerate fully all the time. Sometime when u accelerate fully, the acceleration does not go up and the needle stays at 1 to 2k Rpm and This happens mostly when im making a turn where it gets dangerous as the oncoming driver assumes that i will make the turn before he gets near but my vehicle stalls and i get to release the pedal and accelerate again.
This is my daily driver. I'm wasting a lot of money of fuel. I have already checked the normal fuel consumption of the patrol which is much much less than what my vehicle is drinking.
I would really appreciate any help with this.

.
Also you should try the D3 there's a 2 sec delay on pull off, embarrassed myself loads "running" a stop street only to drift across and then surge like a train.

You could have a small hole between the intake manifold and the MAF. Or the more expensive side could be a faulty MAF. With your K&N filter you could have damaged you MAF. Use the original Nissan filter especialy in the dunes and sand driving that you do.

I double n triple checked the intake set up. No hole to be found anywhere. The last time I had some rough idling the mechanic who worked on the car had removed the air intake to spray some cleaner inside the throttle body. This issue started a few days thereafter.Wheels wrote:You could have a small hole between the intake manifold and the MAF. Or the more expensive side could be a faulty MAF. I'm not sure if there is some kind of leak in the set up when he fixed it back.
