Hi Grant,
Now you are talking my language!! This is the sort of planning I had in mind and I will set it up accordingly. I will set it up on the PC and in my diary as well!
I also am in contact with Grootseun re high tech servicing etc., and will probably follow his thinking?
Regards, Chris.

Re: PATROL SERVICING 178,000 KM
Hi everybody, you all are aware of my precious patrol being on the market, and it remains fascinating the calls we get. However, my point at present is that Rick my son suggested we take a look at the gearbox and diffs with the potential to change the respective oils? Please could we again seek good advice from you for types of oils (both gearbox and diffs as well as the transfer box)? Much was discussed before and will continue to do so into the future about this topic, and it would be great if such good advice be repeated for us all? Regards. Chris

Re: PATROL SERVICING 178,000 KM
Hi, I got it as follows:
Diff oils: castrol epx 80w90 gl5
Transfer case: Castrol Transmax Dextron III or Castrol GL-4 75w/90 (apparently dex 3 works better in vehicle with auto locking hubs)
Still checking which is correct gearbox oil...for the auto box...(wil get back on that one, if someone else dont get back before me).

I understand Nissan J-matic is the only thing that should go into that gearbox.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Re: PATROL SERVICING 178,000 KM
Hi Peter,
Thank you for this timely advice. it emphasizes our ongoing saga with respect to what we should do, and while every Patrol owner is effectively an 'expert' in his/her own right, we really do seem continue a debate that does not seem to end? Nor be conclusive?
So also with the greatest of respect to you personally, I am going to throw out the question again to all concerned - what do we do about the gearbox oil?
Regards, Chris

Re: PATROL SERVICING 178,000 KM
I don't know the automatics. But the manual states the following (there seem to be two variants of autobox).
Transfer: TX12A : Genuine Nissan ATF or equivalent*4 or API GL-4 (1)
Gearbox : RE5R05A : Genuine Nissan ATF Matic Fluid J (3)
Gearbox : RE4R03A : Genuine Nissan ATF or equivalent (4)
(1) For further details, see “SAE viscosity number”
(3) Using automatic transmission fluid other than Nissan Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J will cause deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the warranty.
(4) For more information regarding suitable fluids, contact a Nissan dealer for correct brand(s) of DEXRON TM III/MERCON TM Automatic Transmission Fluid.
And yes... I know that dealers are fond of that "vendor lock-in" thing and will paste warnings about not using other fluids, but I tend to stick with what they say (or what Graham tells me to do)

Re: PATROL SERVICING 178,000 KM
Thank you for you very valuable points made, and what continues to be a focal point is that the gearbox oil for the Patrol GRX auto box should NOT be anything else than what Peter mentioned?
maybe it is about time I spent a little money on the patrol?
Regards, Chris
