4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
Hi probably a stupid question but here it goes.
Coolant reservoir is in a funny position in the 4.8 Patrol. It’s very difficult to read, whether it has sufficient coolant in it or the level is ok.
In my CRD, reservoir was rather on top and the level was clearly visible so it was easy.
How do you guys check your’s. What is the easiest way to determine this?
Thanks

I pour enough in that I can see it when you look through the filler hole. That puts it just above the full mark on the bottle. Any more than that and it may overflow when the engine gets hot and the reservoir gets filled with excess fluid.
When in doubt throttle out !

Re: 4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
Two methods I have used on mine, although the reason is different (the bottle has become very opaque)
1) Shining a torch into the bottle through the open filler often makes the level reasonably visible. If this fails, method 2:
2) A dipstick (well calibrated finger) inserted through the open filler.

Re: 4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
Thanks gents. So what coolant do you use. I went to Nissan and they gave me a Renault coolant and they say it is good enough for the patrol. But I didn’t use it yet. What do you recommend.

Re: 4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
So if I understand correctly, if you can see the coolant then it's full?

Re: 4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
You can use the Renault coolant. Make sure you mix it according to recommendations on the bottle. Nissan and Renault are in bed together even if the patrol is a total Nissan product.

Re: 4.8 Patrol engine coolant level
I usually stick my cell phone torch into the gap between the radiator and the bottle and then squint through the grill.
