Backlash and or axle play...

i would not be bothered with a Patrol. Mine is heading for 900 000 km with all components still the original parts. (except wheel bearings). Patrols have very large diameter drive line and diff internals and a little wear will show more play at the wheels than other similar vehicles?

Also, in 20 years and all that distance I have changed the diff and gearbox oil only twice - obviously when wheel bearing replacement was to be done. Never had bearing failure, only precautionary maintenance.
I should add:
I noticed much more rolling with the hand brake engaged on the old 4.2D than on my newer CRD
2000 Patrol GL 4.2D - Still strong just short of 900 THOUSAND KILOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEETERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSS - Daily Tractor
2014 CRD at 170k km - Sunday Tractor
2012 NP300 DC - platkar
