Hannes, what does the SC in your "4.2 Futiue" stand for, Single Cab (Bakkie) or Super Charged?

If super charged, that is radical, unless you meant to say 4.2 TDi.

Mine is a 4cyl 3.0 Di with a bigger front mounted Cirus intercooler, replacing the small over-engine top mounted one. I have also a Madman monitoring system to be able to keep an eye over EGTs.

After overhauling the turbo (bearings started to rattle on startup) and removing and cleaning and overhauling the injectors, the vehicle was a disaster, (no power and heavy on fuel, pumping out black smoke g a ste sign overgfeulling) and nobody could help me sort it out as the ECU values could not be changed unless a chip was fitted.

A former Patrol owner and still a member of this club (Grant) referred me to SAC Centurion. The then owner knows this 3.0 16 valve diesel Nissan engines and its needs and limitations like the back of his hand. He had a Hardbody with this engine and used his vehicle as a "Guinea-pig test trial and error engine" and seemed to get it just right eventually. He worked out that this engine could in fact safely handle EGTs of 700 degrees. He even ran his own engine at 850 degree over long periods, but said he would not recommend it. He knew how to handle these temperatures safely, customers would not....

I run EG Temperatures of around 450 to 550 and at times as high as 600 degrees and have set the alarm at 650 degrees, and since the chip fitment have only managed to activate the 650 degree alarm once.

I fitted the chip 4 years ago and it has put the engine back to what it was like before the turbo and injector replacement. I am happy and confident with it now....

Our Patrol is our only car my wife uses it everyday just the saving on insurance from the Jeep to the patrol covers the feul issue. And the difference in what I pay back to the bank is also 6000 difference so on the pocket I'm saving. I get hundred kilometers per quarter tank average. The smile on my wife's face driving her priceless

She is a bit ship like on the road with a bit of a wandering Spirit, all over the road. Not bad just different to the Amarok that was straight and true.

Hannes

I meant a single Cab work bakkie with a 4.2 diesel that Michael will "enhance" for me.

So that the 4.8 is for family.

Mine does between 4.8 and 5.
I think I’ve seen a 5.5 and a 6 maybe once in the four years of ownership.

What I noticed again was someone mentioning they cruise at 140km/h.
Mine has no hope of that, my cruising speed is 110. It’s a tiring effort to try keep it at 120, and it’s a hell of a thing to try get it to reach 140!

Graham, have you had that car on a dyno? That sounds dead wrong to me. A 4.8 should easily get to 140...

Published performance was 0-100 in 10.9 seconds and a top end of 190km/h.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

You should reach 140 without noticing it...

Never been on a dyno, no.
It definitely doesn’t feel underpowered, and it revs cleanly to redline. Maybe I’m just being a bit of a girl and not pushing it enough.

But, I couldn’t imagine seeing 190 in it though. But again. Maybe I’m too scared. Haha

Edit: I’ll take it in the satellite road on Saturday morning to test. Anyone want to join?

I also get 4.8kmpl average, 5 if I'm super lucky but I agree that it seems strange that you struggle to getting to 140. Mine feels most comfortable between 120 and 140 when cruising. :mytwocents:
