Changed the diff oils today, they had never been changed under my ownership and I couldnt find any evidence of the last change in the service history. The front diff oil was still like new, clear and golden, the rear diff however, was a bit nasty to be honest. It was milky grey and full of bubbles. Clearly there had been water ingress. A little while ago while I was washing the undercarriage in preparation for a repaint I found the rear diff breather pipe hanging down disconnected from its spigot on the chassis crossmember. That was what actually prompted the change...

Anyway they should be all good and happy now after the change. Drove it for 15 minutes, engaged the rear diff lock and then rechecked the levels before tightening up the plugs again. My old man is coming up on Wednesday with a full service kit and 12 liters of Nissan matic J for a gearbox oil change. I know the gearbox oil is overdue because when I changed my radiator the oil in the gearbox cooler pipes was black. So I'll be doing that and the transfer case as well as a full engine service next week.

Yea too true! Drove through the river here in decmber, I recon that's when the water got in. I flushed it out with a liter of new oil to make sure the bad stuff was out and had a peak into the filler and drain ports with a torch and the gears still look good, couldnt see any rust or pitting ect just going to make a point of checking the diff oils every few months to keep them lekker. I also replaced the spring clamps on the breather pipe with proper hose clamps.

Good day Gents.

So last week my Patrol found itself at Viper exhaust for a full system branches and exhaust. The guys there did and awsome job and im really happy with the end result. a deeper exhaust note that I can actually hear. Fuel economy may suffer as i can't get enough of the loud pedal...lol. everything is neatly tucked away as I asked so hopefully I won't break this one off.

I also stopped in at Peter to pick up a custom baseplate he made up for me. As always Peter delivered another top quality baseplate that fits perfectly, will hold up well and looks good. Thanks Peter.

Test fit yesterday so off to get it painted. Some before and after pics below
