Unfortunately the safety switch was a bit big for the blanked off switches I had wanted to use to the left of the steering wheel, so they ended up to the right.
Previous owner had used it for something too because the smaller one had already been trimmed.

So the end result is a working winch from the comfort of the drivers seat, and a neater look from the front.

Well, it has been a very long time since I posted here, but there have been some interesting developments. Delays in updating this thread are not all my fault....directly.

Pics to follow.

Unfortunately I have lost some of my pics due to a phone swap, but luckily nothing too exciting I think. The next change I made was to remove the tow bar from the back. This had a drop plate installed and really affected departure angle badly. They did quite a good job tightening those bolts. I had to lock 2 spanners into each other for extra leverage and stand on them to get them too loosen. Unfortunately I have not yet managed to loosen the ones up front, so I still have a tow hitch stick out under the bumper :(

Based on recommendations from this forum I contacted Jan Fourie from Quantum Auto, to get a sliding window installed at the back which would give me access into the canopy, from the cab. His solution was to replace the back window with one from a Navara. Surprisingly the most expensive part of this option would be the rubber seal. He sent me a few pics of previous jobs they had done like this, and after agreeing to the job something in one of his pics caught my eye. A few more emails and a quote was set up. Unfortunately we were a bit close to the end of the year so we agreed that I would drop it off early in January. Jan had a few delays due to needing to replace some staff, but he sent me regular updates.

Jan bought the load bin from me, so that worked out quite nicely. He extended the cab and built a bench seat at the back with a box on the passenger side.

He installed some side windows. The initial plan had been to install gull wings, similar to the front runner jobs for the rear quarter windows on 76 cruisers, but the quotes were ludicrous. I will revisit this at a later stage.

Jan and his team pushed hard to get it done before lock down, and I collected it a few hours before provincial borders closed. The N1 north was a nightmare, with somebody actually driving into us and damaging our side mirror as a sea of vehicles ignored the lanes at the toll gates. Jan said if there were any issues I should bring it back, and they would also give it a nice polish which they didn't get to.
