Me and bad habits!

Post by Peter Connan »

:imsorry:

Several times I have said engine transplants are bad news.
Many more times have I warned others to be careful of modified Diesels.
Even more times have I shown my preference for good old petrol over the Devil's fuel.

Which must all be why I have just ordered a TD42T from Sojo Automotive...

New adventures await!
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Yes, the donor engine is a Silvertop and Tinus organised me a second-hand hair drier and manifold for a great price.

The setup will be the standard turbo and manifold from the final run of 4.2 pickups on a re-built Silvertop from a GQ, using the original pistons and rings but probably new sleeves and head.

This will be used with one of the stainless airboxes Michael sells (already installed and in use with the TB45) and a front-mount intercooler, all set up to boost around 0.7-0.8 bar (so not a serious powerhouse, but mostly built for reliability).

The primary reason is of course fuel consumption (currently sitting at 3.8km/l average) and range but also the 4.2 dizzy and carburettor never really seemed to suit the TB45, and I am still allergic to aftermarket electronics installations on an overland vehicle.

Also I have been having some issues with reliability, probably caused at least in part by myself, but fixing them feels like throwing good money after bad.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Peter.... My lips are sealed, but deep down I knew you would .... I think "The Doors" sang it best......

You won't be disappointed. Different driving style, but there is something about a TD42 that grabs you by the ______, and says Harroo Preeez !!!
