Alex Roux wrote: 11 Mar 2019 08:29 In Austrlalia, there seems to be an uptick in the use of the Y62 as a challanger to the LC200 in obstacle driving.

It is kicking the 200s butt in most obstacles.

I have watched several of these videos now. It is quite clear that the traction control on the Y62 is amazing, superb and deeply impressive. Almost no lag now, so the old complaint of it having to spin (and thus running out of momentum) before the system starts working no longer applies.

Certainly superior to the one in the Cruiser. But It does appear to me that the Cruiser has slightly more articulation and also a little bit more clearance. And since it has a live axle at the back at least, one can probably increase the break-over and departure angle slightly more although at some cost to approach angle and a slightly nose-down attitude.

I guess the thing is that a vehicle with more articulation will always make an obstacle look easier than one that relies on traction aids instead, simply because it doesn't flop around as much, but when the terrain gets extreme enough that the articulation runs out, the vehicle that relies purely on articulation runs out of talent but the one with traction aids doesn't. On the other hand, anything that runs out of ground clearance also runs out of talent at the very same moment...

And sorry, I still don't want one, unless I can also keep my GQ...

I set it on cruise control at 120 kph on a Capetown to Saldanha trip and registered 12.8 lt/100k and coming back with the southeastern in my face it registered 13.5

Town driving is 20 lt/100 k , I am learning all the time on how to reduce it but moving 2.7 tons in the stop/start traffic is not easy

For the rest is a mean machine

This week the Frontunner roof rack is coming on , just got the rails, the rack is from the old y61

Tires and rims is next when the cash flow improves
Mizio, Congrats!! Great car that. Enjoy!!

I must agree, congratulations! I've seen them with a steel bumper, they look mean. There something to say about a big naturally aspirated ICE. Enjoy! :layrubber:

So far I haven’t towed anything yet but will do on my yearly hunt to the Eastern Cape

Monday is going to have the Roof rack installed (ex Y61)

Tyres and rims is next but I cannot find any steel rims in 18s and 17s don’t fit over the calipers , so is going to be mags

If someone can please tell me how to post the pics here I will do so ( not good with this new tech   )

So I was not a huge fan of the Y62 when it launched...for all the usual reasons everyone has stated. But it has grown on me and I see they are becoming very popular in Aus. Watched these videos recently too which gave me more respect for them:

They are very good indeed. Excellent value for money (Used).
I don't understand why LC's in general are soooooooooo overrated. Fuel consumption is also close to LC 200 V8. If I was any dummer I would have bought one (sorry if I have offended any one by this).
