Open road consumption figures would be informative.
IMO same for same must come down as the engine would be more efficient at combustion.??.

Wilhelm will have to exercise some discipline to tell us what we want to know.

Michael is there a reason you went Spitstronics rather than a Uni Chip?

Hahaha you guys. First you ask for videos of doughnuts and then you ask for discipline. I can't please everyone so here's what I can do:

I am generally a disciplined driver and I am doing 400 km (mixed city and highway) driving tomorrow. Over the weekend I will be doing 500 km or more mostly highway. Will try to be sensible and post fuel consumption results accordingly. :salute:

As for the doughnuts: holding a camera in one hand while doing doughnuts doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but I'll give you the keys at Rust de Winter and you can do your own doughnuts. QQQ

Julian, Spitronics is a really really good product. It gives you total control over the engine to do exactly what you want where you want it. There are many safety factors built in which protects the engine like over boost and high water temps. If the engine map is set up to run at 0.5 bar and suddenly the turbo deliveres 0.8 bar boost, Spitronics will add the extra fuel to keep the AFR's where they should be.

As for the Unichip, I cannot bad mouth it and it sounds like everyone is happy with it. It works specially well on setups like the 4.8 where it "piggybacks" on the standard ECU.

In our case the engine runs 100% only on Spitronics.

Michael, ek moet net sê dat die installasie van die turbo en pype op die 4.5 baie netjies lyk, dit is regtig 'n baie profesionele werkie wat jy daar verig het. :thumbup:

I promised to keep you posted on fuel consumption.

Have driven 532 km combined highway and town. My foot wasn't particularly heavy, but I also wasn't really trying to be extra careful. I suppose this is what you can consider "normal" driving for the (new and improved) Patrol.
Got 18.2 litres per 100km.

The only time I (well Bradley really) put the foot down was when making this:

This is where it gets tricky. Apples with apples isn't that simple. If I had driven the same road at the same time before the modification, I would have had roughly 17.5 l/100 (compared to 18.2). However, my travelling time would have been 45 to 60 minutes more as passing trucks and keeping speed up hill would have been a lot more hassle.

I suppose my impression at this point is that the consumption hasn't really been affected by the modification (other than that there are a lot more horses available on demand at a small cost). In order to really compare apples with apples, I would need to take a trip to Capetown (or similar). The best consumption I've ever had before the modification was 16.4 l/100km driving at a (relatively) constant 120 kph for over 300 km. My feeling is that if I drive exactly like that after the modification I will have similar results.

On the other hand, the worst consumption (open road) I've ever had was flooring it through the mountains on which occasion I averaged 21 l/100. I believe I would now be easily able to keep up (with my old self) through those same mountains and not use more than 19l/100km.

I suppose there is now opportunity to improve the consumption by re-gearing the Patrol. With the extra available horses, you could easily obtain the same speed at lower rpm and this is where I believe the most significant impact will be. If a 4.5l engine turns at a certain speed, it will use a certain amount of fuel.

Simply put: The combustion is (can be) more efficient after the modification, but that results in more horses. It doesn't necessarily result in less fuel. In other words: normal driving isn't affected by the modification, however heavy driving (such as driving in sand) will be affected a lot. On the one hand you could drive next to an unmodified 4.5 in the sand and use less fuel (because you can do the same thing at lower rpm) or you could blow sand in his face by putting your foot down, but then end up paying for it in the extra fuel used (more compression and bigger injectors playing it's role here.)

Well.. it has only been 2 fuel-ups and I will continue to keep you posted, but that is my impression for now.
