Yamiax, ek glo ook so. Ek dink ek gaan egter ek sal hou by die ietwat meer kraglewering met die 275 voete.

Ek het pas verneem dat ek vir Lasarus eerskomende Dinsdag in ontvangs neem. Weet enige iemand hoe lank hierdie naweek gaan wees?

Koos, jy moet Dinsdag jou selfoon aanhou.

Final report!!! (altans...vir eers in 2009) See the pics below.

I took delivery of Lasarus in Bloemfontein on 15 Dec'09. Before departure we had to sort out the trailer wiring...no sweat. The trailer with the old organs gave Lasarus a fair performance test which he completed with flying colours.

My son Rynier accompanied me with mom's Corsa classic to Bloem. Approximately 40km outside Bloem on the N1 highway we encountered a heavy rainstorm. A truck directly in front of us lost a retread in the middle of our lane. The Corsa sustained a broken fender and radiator. We stopped and called for a recovery from Bloem. While we waited the rainstorm decided to become a severe hailstorm. I could not believe my bad luck. Both cars severely damaged, so much so that the "dent doctors" do not even want to quote on Lasarus. With the Corsa recovered back to Bloem, Lasarus took on the road to Pretoria on his own. The following summerises my driving experience the past week.

1. Fuel consumption from Bloem...with trailer: 5.8km/l, GPS measured distance.
2. Speed & revs with standard 3.0D diffs: The speedo is out with approximately 21%. The revs at 120km/h GPS speed is exactly 3000.
3. The power is unbelievable, open- and town roads. Although the 4.8 is a power-house, I believe that the diff ratio plays a big part in my experience.

Points 2 & 3 leaves me in 2 minds. Do I change the 3rd member in the diffs or not. The rev setting leaves the car in a very optimum torque bracket, hence the enormous power. Pulling a trailer and 4x4 driving is a breeze. The fuel consumption is not bad either. However, I do sacrifice top speed...which is not that important to me. I also intend to lift the car 2"and go to 285/70/R16 tyres. Any suggestions?????

4. The gearbox with the "compulsary" new control valve is unbelievable. During gentle excelleration I hardly feel the gear changes.

5. Technical glitches:

a. I see some anti-frezze residue emerging in the coolant. I believe it's as a result of the 4.8 enging that stood still for a few months with the coolant in the engine, before the transplant. The cooling system will be flushed tommorrow and the thermostat replaced as a precaution.
b. I felt a slight vibration in the body at certain revs. However, on the Groenkloof 4x4 track the rear end of the exhaust scraped the ground and the vibration subsequently dissapeared. I took Lasarus to Supa Quick and the correct bending was done to the pipe....vibration completely gone.
c. The speedcontrol does not engage. The electrics tests good. I suspect the vacuup pump to be dead. It will be tested at Imperial Nissan tommorrow.

6. I inspect the engine and gearbox for fluid leaks every day. So far not a single drop of moisture to be found at all. Since the 4.8 does not have a gearbox dipstick, Attie changed (...and calibrated!!!) my 3.0D dipstick to the 4.8 gearbox. All the oils and coolants remains unchanged after 1500km since the transplant.

7. Interior: The original centre consol had to be replaced with the "different colour" 4.8 consol due to incompatible trimming design. I have to get used to it or try and have it re-painted.

8. The 2007 and 2001 model Patrol speedo spool casing differ from each other. Attie changed the insides of the 4.8 into my speedo casing...perfect.

9. The 4.8 aircon controls were transplanted into Lasarus due to electric loom compatibility.

10. The only outstandin connection is the radio & CD shuttle, since I kept my original Nissan system. The 4.8 and diesel looms are different, especially the wiring colours. This will be connected by a audio specialist today here in Pretoria.

I believe that I will encounter small glitches as time goes on. I am prepared for it and will deal with them as they appear. All-in-all the transplant is a success. I believ that the relative effortless experience so far can be contributed to the fact that it was a complete transplant and not a conversion. The me the transplant resembles very much similar to "the same puzzle-block pattern used with a different picture". It was a simple modular exercise. Well done to Attie!!
