4.8 GL 2005
Hello gents.
I have got my eye on a 05 Y61 4.8 GL with low kms. This will be my hopefully be my first Patrol so will
appreciate any advice. I know the bakkie has the toughest diffs and gearbox in the business(not that the GRX is much weaker), but how does the manual box/drive train stack up. Does it give trouble as I have heard very little to no issues on the auto box. My brother in law, a member here, has a GRX and swears by his Troll. Sold my LC 76 as I could not live with that glass gbox and don't want to sit with the same problem. Many thanks Mario
BTW prefer manual in a 4x4 that is why I'm looking at the hens teeth

Re: 4.8 GL 2005
Mario, the maunal box in the 4.8GL is basically the same as the manual boxes in all the Patrols, except that the 5th gear has been strengthened.
It weighs nearly 400kg.
Tommy has a 7l Chevvy V8 in his, liberally tuned. He still uses the standard box.
You won't break it unless you really try hard.

Welkom Mario.
I think Nico(timken) also got a maual 4.8?
Nothing wrong with the diffs or gearboxes on any model Patrol...
Afaik the 4.8 also got the huge h260 rear diff - same as pickup. (?)

Re: 4.8 GL 2005
Thanks so much for all the replies gents. The one I was after was sold this morning . It was a 2005 with only 115000km on the clock with extras. I took too long. There is another one on olx, but its a private sale and I need to trade in the Prado as a deposit. Search continues.
