My Patrol

Post by PaulvdMerwe »

Goeie dag almal,

Ek is Paul van der Merwe van Graaff Reinet. Ek het nou al redelik tyd op julle forum spandeer en sommer al baie slim geword.

I am finally the proud owner of a Patrol. From the forums, I learned that the one I got is not the best, but hey..... Beggars cant be choosers :blonde: ...

So what dit you get you must be wondering....... apparently... a Hand grenade. 2001 3.0 Di GRX Auto
This grenade just exploded, hence the reason I got it for a very good price.

Well I will be open for comments and look forward to more tips and advice from you guys.

Hartlike groete
Paul

Wat is jou plan met jou 3.0? Reg maak of dink jy aan n 4.2TD om daar in te sit?

Thanks for the welcome and replies. We own an automotive workshop in Graaff-Reinet, and myself am a qualified diesel mechanic. My plan is to fix the current ZD30. I plan to throw out the catalic converter and install boost and EGT gauges. I will then do mods as time goes on.
I will certainly make use of the advice offered on the forum.

Regards
Paul

Paul... Firstly welcome to the forum !!

Secondly, you are in the sweet position, being a diesel mech to repair that motor. That motor is pretty damn good. A bastard to work on, but is a robust motor ( other than the over fueling issue). One rarely hears of any other problems other than the hand grenade issue on these motors.

Once the motor is open you will see exactly how bad the damage is. PLEASE TAKE LOADS OF PHOTOS !!! and allow us to follow your rebuild process ..... we are very nosy and always want to see a sick Patrol get well again !!!

Speak to Stefan here on the forum for VERY valuable advice and info on the ZD motor regarding EGR block off and Dawes valve fitment as well as a oil catch can. You are already well on your way to success with what you already said you will be fitting (I plan to throw out the catalic converter and install boost and EGT gauges), but these are monitoring measures, where as the EGR an Dawes valve and catch can are preventative measures and will cost almost nothing to do while you are busy doing the rebuild.

Do this and I recon you will have a Patrol good for the 500 000Km expected life span
