Ok, omtrent 'n jaar en drie maande later.
Die "krakies" het metertyd groter geword en verf het begin af dop, oppervlak roes begin te vorm...

Wat is die maklikste (en goedkoopste) manier om die verf te herstel?
Paneel klopper het my R1800 gekwoteer om engin kap oor te verf.
Kan mens nie net die problematiese kol herstel nie.
Wat het mens alles nodig om "d.i.y." te doen?

I've said this a few times and i'll say it again,.... Nissan Paint work is by far one of the worst in the Automotive business.
The paint work on a Toyota Land Cruiser is 100x better than a Nissan Patrol...fact.

Nissan charge a fortune for these vehicles, and cut corners in so many places, its disgraceful.

Unfortunately bud there is no DIY fix for rust. The only way to fix that is to have a REAL QUALITY panel beater fix it, either cut it and plate it, or if its shallow enough, take it down a few microns and treat it, but generally it will always come back.

I absolutely HATE the kak paint job on Nissan Patrols.

The rust is not deep at all. just surface. Was thinking to sand it down and repaint. But not sure what would be the correct paint to use. (to get the same thickness).
Probably better to have it done professionally.
Was hoping to fix it temporarily until the cash flow allow to do a proper job... Would actually be first place to do the whole vehicle as there is some bad (lot smaller) spots here and there all over the vehicle.

Agree with Russ, there is no shortcuts here. Do it properly or........actually there is no other choice.

This chapter came to an end, rather abruptly. Engine died... so to speak. cracked head, some seized pistons, etc.
Not currently being in financial situation to have it fixed, decided to sell it as is..

Good luck to new owner, I'm sure after Michael fixed it up, it will be as good as new.. or even better.

Ok so Fanus's old bakkie was brought to new life and was sold to Philip Bekker (Raka) who is the proud new owner.

The engine was in a really bad condition and Fanus actually bought the bakkie with a cracked head way back.
The noise in the engine was actually the valve seat coming loose and the pieces are now stuck in the piston. (Will post pics).
The water aystem was VERY dirty and rust due to a lack of good antifreeze actually destroid the oil cooler which had to be replaced.
Sleeves were scored from over heating and 4 of the 6 pistons were seized and head was cracked.
At least the clutch was ok.

The engine is now rebuilt from scratch and balanced as well. Runs really well and happy its alive again!!

The mating section between the water and oil heat exchangers were pitted badly and it had to be replaced.
Just another conformation........ DO NOT BUY CHEAP ANTIFREEZE!!!
Fanus guaranteed me he was running his water system on Midas Antifreeze. I know Nissan antifreeze is expensive, but its cheaper than fixing your engine
