Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
.. oompie stel so voor
Selfs 'n 2,5 Pathy / Navra engine sal daar werk .. kyk maar wad doen die 2,5 Cabstar trokkies .. PLENT krag daar..
Maar daai ZD 30 in die nuwe Patrol bakkie stel my gerus .. [About 25 K se rande .. 50 tot 60 K om die 4,2 te fix met nuwe blok ..]

Hmmm... so 'n moderne 3 liter of hipermoderne 2.5 liter gedoente gaan HEELWAT elektriese rondspringery behels!

Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
Ouch Christo !!!!.... that is quite unreal !! I don't think I've ever heard of a cracked block before on a 4.2.
As much as I respect the new ZD30's, Chuck cannot ever ...... ever have anything other than a 4.2L, 6 cylinder, oil burning power house !!! The Iron Maiden says " Size matters and you can't beat cubic inches"

Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
This brings back some memories
Some considerations around the 4.2 replacement at this thread, albeit for the hand grenade ZD30 Patrols.
http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.ph ... 2&start=10
As regards the ZD30 engine, I refer to Mr Tour de Frans himself:
Personally I prefer not to hit my big toe against the same rock again. But thats just me....
Christo,
There is only one thing that still bugs me:
Do you know why / how this happened.
All we know is that it was heat related. So not necessarily water in the Diesel?
As long as the cause is not clear I will be hesitant to make a decision on the same engine replacement.

I think Pieter and JG will aggree if I say: never mind if you get a ZD30 for free, do not use it again.
Open a zd30 that is still running, I can guarentee the head is cracked. But nevermind them.

Re: Chuck Norris is in ICU
Alex, the "water in diesel" warning light was lit when the engine lost power and Graham emptied a substantial amount of water from the diesel filter water trap the following day. His first opinion was that the damage was caused by water-contaminated diesel, and this was confirmed by an engineering shop last week.Alex Roux wrote:All we know is that it was heat related. I concede that it only ran for a measly 300 000 km before throwing in the towel, but I won't hesitate for a moment to replace it with another 4.2...
