1999 4.2d
Hi All
In Aug 2012 I bought my first patrol(1999 4.2 D), it has been bitter sweet till now. Bitter as all its problems gearbox noisy, hubs worn and rust is showing its ugly head. Sweet as I have owned a Trooper 2.2d and Landrover III, 3.2d DC Hardbody but the Patrol is the most AWESOME one I have ever driven. Yes its a donkey on the open road but its an ox in the bush. As can be seen form previous vehicles I dont go for speed, that I leave for Monday to Friday in a "plat kar"
Regards
Jacque

Welcome Jacque
Have a root around, particularly here in the "drivetrain" section, you will find all you need to know about wheel bearings. There is also a post somewhere about where you can find aftermarket (although manual not auto) hubs. You can also PM Kagiso II for that, he knows a supplier?

Re: 1999 4.2d
Gearbox noise most likely due to Heavy Duty Clutch. Any normally aspirated 4.2Patrol motor and gearbox fitted with heavy duty clutch will have a terrible sounding noise, particularly at very low revs as the power comes on. Nothing to worry about, harmonic resonance. believe me i've studied this phenomenon.

Hi Lerz, it was lekker bumping into you at Baviaanskloof Guest cottages. Make sure you ask Ross about your gearbox noises he has had the same issue for a while now and suspects its actually the transfer case chain. As far as the Hubs go, he replaced them with a manual set of GQ hubs for minimal cost, which are a direct bolt on replacement.
