Hello
Not funny like in HA HA but funny like in I am WORRIED
Went to Welkom this weekend where we are in the process of renovating a house. All went well and the Patrol worked very hard.
On Sunday morning the Patrol started to idle at 1200RPM. When I engage the clutch and put the car in gear the revs dropped to 600 where she normally idles. This continued the whole day. The EGT was normal, there was no strain on the clutch that I could detect.
We came back to Gauteng last light and the idle stayed at 1200RPM. Stopped in Westonaria where we picked up the children visiting their Grandmother and on leaving her house the Patrol idled at 600RPM. Drove to Alberton, to work this morning and everything is back to normal.
I thought it might be the slave cylinder acting up, low clutch fluid (checked, not that), or a dirty MAF?
The Patrol is due for a service in the next 1000 km.
Thanx

Hi Izak
I have had similar problems with my GQ before it went in for a service, but is keeps on popping back on the odd occasion, the mechanic said he put some lubricant or something to the fuel cable apparantly it had some dirt & grime and that made releasing not always smooth sailing
Shalom

2. vacuum leak

Izak, dis tyd vir 'n petrol Patrol ... he he he ...
he he he ... jammer man kon nie weerstaan nie, en as jy mooi kyk sal jy sien daar staan so 'n 4 silinder waterpomp diesel engine op my jaart (Tdi 300), so ek weet van ...

Re: Patrol behaving funny
If it is fly by wire there are plenty of stuff to be checked. As a rule start with the simple stuff first.
Air cleaner check enough air is going trough. Mass Airflow sensor MAF or something measure the air that comes trough, feed to the ECU and that adjust the diesel volume. Faulty reading can cause faulty diese. There are threads on the web where to locate and how to clean it. MAF sensors are expensive handle with care.
Get someone with an OBD2 computer to check for fault readings. Like Kagiso said these get logged and can take you straight to the problem. In most cases it is something simple like earth fault of the sensors. That is what plauged the Discovery2 Td5 so much, might have heard of the 3 amigos in LR circles. In most cases a clean will sort. In some cases you replace that can be expensive since Nissan spares is only available trough the dealers.
Everybody might have heard of a Td5 problem. Interestingly little of it is mechanical, mostly electrical. Also interesting is that a Td5 can run without all sensors but the flywheel position sensor. IE you can disconnect all except this one, the ECU will then default to a pre programmed value for the sensor. The mess is when you dont know which is giving a faulty reading, and you can not disconnect it. The ECU will keep applying the faulty values

Re: Patrol behaving funny
Daai kar het n "high idle" of warm up switch.
