Brake discs & pads on Patrol

Post by Kagiso II »

I have just had the shock of my life - Most of us are agreed that the Nissan owners are thoroughly ripped off when it comes to the pricing of spares - but the way that Nissan now completely pluk di edam onner di eeend se gat uit - is ridiculous.

Agarob is at SAC for the 1000Km service after the engine overhaul.
They phone me - the rear brake discs & pads are shottttt - discs already below spec and cannot be skimmed any more.
They have tried all over BUT only the "agents" can supply, nobody else has: Not MIDAS group; AutZone; PowerBrake ...
and they want R4700 for the discs and R1500 for the pads [rear] (more than what a Lexus Engine & gearbox would cost ...]
Is there no end to these type of disapointments and daylight ripoff of us?

BUT - maybe one of you have a spare set OR know where I can get a set rear brake discs & pads for Agarob???

Oom Mac, have a look at this post:
http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?p=2554#p2554

I have also fitted the Ferodo FDB1455-PLA pads to the back of my Troll. They are intended for the front brakes of a Mazda Etude, but work perfectly on the Troll with a small modification to the backing plate. Alternatively you could have the old pads relined.

I am afraid I don't know where to find alternative discs...

Oom Mac,

Ek ry lankal Ferodo pads op al my remme.

They have already fitted said pads to the rear, BUT the discs are really warn and scuffed to "below spec" and need replacement [before I go on the Outreach to Richtersveldt]
I tried 'Wingate" [Winbrake] but this morning isi told me that R4700 was a GOOD price ... huh??]
I now got a price from Imperial Menlyn for R1741.65 EACH for the rear discs [excl VAT] and the pads they ask "ONLY" R1102.25 for the set (rear) .. Now why in this world I got quoted so big a difference between dealers ... uhm uhm .. I dunno.

still looking for the discs though

i got a set of bendix front pads from powerbrake for my 03 grx for just under R1000.00 they do an aftermarket brake replacement on discs and pads. The guy to speak to is Leon Duigan at Powerbrake
T) +27 12 998 0214
F) +27 12 993 1221
I had good results with powerbrake on the wifes voyager (also a heavy vehicle with heavy brake prices)so will try them on the patrol stuff as well.
