90 000km Service Prices....Advice Needed.

Post by Russ Kellermann »

Hi chaps,

Please could i get some feeback from you guys as to what sort of price i must expect to pay for my 90 000km service at the Dealership for my Patrol 4.2D Pickup ' 07 model.

Also. i've heard horror stories about the dealership services , parts not being fitted but charged, wheel bearing grease not being replaced but charged etc etc, terrible stories. How can one be sure that these items have been inspected as per maintenance book and replaced as per instruction? Must i ask to see old parts and oil etc or what!? How does one even know if the oil has been dropped and re[placed in the G-box ,T-box, motor, and diffs.?

Please put my mind at rest !!!! send your views please asap

Regards
russ

Russ,

What you could do is to phone the agents - they will be able to give you a quote of what you can expect to pay for such a service according to what must be done as per service spesifications - EXCLUDING any work not included in the service manual. But if any extra work must be done they must also phone you to inform you, quote you and get your blessing to go ahead.

There is no other way my friend - but to bite the bullet!!!

Good luck

Had my troll serviced at East Cape Nissan Yesterday.

Some things i'm happy with , others not so much.

The 90 000km service is a big one so i had a lot to check. Seems they did most of what is required, but, on inspection i found they had used a GUD air filter (Charged R372.00) in place of a Genuine Part???! :naughty:

There seems to be no activity around the drain plugs on my diffs  but apparently some places just open the Filler plug and use a hand vacuum pump with a nozzle to get the old oil out the diff ? could this be true or am i naively believing this?

Seems like they went through a hellova lot of fluids too, will query this with them too.

My other concern is that the Wheel bearing grease (front) is meant to be replaced, how does one check this (i'm not even sure if they knew they are meant to check this?) cant seem to find any grease on the invoice.

Sounds like a lot of problems but really not that many. i can see they did all other inspections and adjustments as per my service book, incl greasing of nipples etc and door hinges, bonnet catches, and it definately looks like there's been alot of activity at all filler plugs on the Box's and Diffs (but maybe they just open, check for cloudiness add a little and replace the plug?)

All in all they gave me a discount on labour hourly costs as i was not happy with the originall quote (apparently Nissan Diesel motor 90 0000km service is the most expensive and most important , so i expected high cost) of R5570.50 , but i was informed the day before that they would further reduce my bill to R5100.00 (i appreciated the efforts) , on collection however , i was presented with a bill of R4881.55 , I was happy with the price and surprised of course. (Happy on the grounds that everything was done to satisfactory levels??? hence my personal inspection at home!)

Your views on all above?

Regards
Russ

I still have the 75 000 and 90 000km services left on my maintenance plan.

I have located a good workshop, with a owner with a hands on approach, close to me home. He has already serviced my wife's car. He uses only genuine parts, unless one asks him to use others. He was a aircraft technician before he retired and opened his workshop.

After the maintenance plan has gone, the Patrollie will go to him for services, (I have a manual, should it be needed). He says he knows the Patrols well, but if real diagnostics are required, I will probably still go to the agents.

He's not exactly cheap - R350ph for labour.

But he is still cheaper than the dealers, and he does everything

Russ, I see there are quite a few more 'replace' items at 90K, 75K more 'inspect/check'.

I have often wondered how much actually gets checked though, BUT at least I'll be covered for a warranty claim, because they mos checked it.

I went back to Nissan dealership and demanded answers to all above.

1:Air filter they took a chance on and agreed to replace with genuine part. the parts guy tried to get out of it by lying to his boss, it was shamefull to see him squirm while i stood with both of them in front of me. idiot.

2:they showed me the vacuum pump used to take diff oil out so i understood why the drain plugs were not touched.

3: grease is apparently never included onto invoices as the amount used is so minimal, he said they checked the preload on the front bearings and all was good.?hmmmm.

4:Still dont understand how they could have used more oil in the transfer case than in the gearbox? it doesnt make sense to me, its nowhere near the same size, surely this is not right? They workshop foreman went through the invoice with me.....

8 x units = G-box oil (Cas2 -Castrol EP SAE)
8 x units = Diff oil (Cas4 - Trans 80W90)
9 x units = Transfer case oil (Cal6 - Caltex Destron 11)
20 x units = Engine oil (Tec1 - Tection Plus)

Does any of this sound wrong or weird. (ie:the amounts and description of fluid in brackets)

Send your thoughts and advice
