Must Service Items

Post by AndriesS »

Can I suggest that we create a Must Service Items list and must check items. With the wealth of information it could make life easier for new owners. 'm not familiar with Patrol at all but here is an example of Honda
Honda cambelts (older shapes) had to be changed every 80 000km , however a typical honda waterpump only lasts for just over the
160 000km - a must service would be change water pump at every second cambelt change.

As a new owner (hopefully soon) know to check things such as the fanblades (how many failed when) -what to check, cam belt/chain change, waterpump change, those things that can save plenty of money if done and things typically not done by the dealers.

My viscous coupling also failed sometime before I got the car, so I would say check or replace the viscous coupling around 200k km.

The other thing I want to mention is that apparently not all Nissan agents wil re-grease the Birfields and front wheel bearings every 40k km as is specified in the manual, however I also beleive that for most of us who drive on tar 80% of the time 40k is perhaps unnecesarily conservative. On mine the side shaft oil seals failed at 250k km, and I beleive that this is the first time the front axle was opened.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Good idea
Only remember, we own Patrols. No need off special lists. Normal maintenance are enough.
I think we could spend all day making up a list to Must Service on parts that fail. Some may last 10 years and others 1 year.
Patrols dont have common failures. Like many other vehicles. ie: E36 BMW 328 with the ally block, start useing oil over 100 000 kms.The Honda waterpump.ZD20's for their piston failure. Many more, but this is not maintenace. rebuilding a motor are a diffirant story.
Proper services are more than enough. Changing oil are the easy part. Do you change the brakefluid to? very importand...
For the auto Patrols with no dipstick. You can buy a dipstick from the agents for very little money.
