Oops, one thing I just noticed in the article,
A year later in 2001, the Y61 Series 3 arrived and brought with it a 4.8L turbo-diesel six-cylinder making 185kW and 420Nm of torque
I wish we had a 4,8 turbo diesel model! :lol:

That would be nice, I can only imagine what a 4.8L TD would do in a Patrol...

The humble beginnings of the Patrol goes a bit further than the Japanese Govt request to build a vehicle, that request was made to all the Jap manufacturers to get the country back on track after WW2
The actual TENDER Request was from INDIA - where the Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Pajero and Patrol was offered by the Jap manufacturers.
PAJERO won the Indian contract and it was AFTER that that Jap Govt asked the manufacturers to come up with a counter to Jeep and Land Rover.
