Re: OLDER Nissans - LRP or ULP Petrol?
Shortly after I got my Patrol, I did ask the manufacturer. And although it took a long time to get an answer, and they still sounded rather confused and unsure of themselves, I was told that my Y60 could run on either.
From what I understand, using unleaded petrol in an engine not designed for it has two possible problems. The first is vale seat recession, and the other is that some rubbers in the fuel system/carb might not be resistant to unleaded.
The valve seat recession problem is the only one liable to cause engine damage, and is only really a factor on engines with cast-iron heads with integral seats. And since the Y60 has an aluminium head, there shouldn't be any real issues.
I have used both (although I usually used LRP), and upon stripping my engine recently, I could see no damage to the valve seats.
What I don't know about are the even older patrols (safaris and G60's).

Re: OLDER Nissans - LRP or ULP Petrol?
The 2.8 Safari's with the L28 motor can use unleaded. The only problem they had at the time was the fact that when unleaded was introduced it was a lower octane and the timing had to be retarded slightly to prevent pinging

I was told by Nissan that all Nissans can use both but on my Safari the LRP give me better fuel consumption!

Re: OLDER Nissans - LRP or ULP Petrol?

-
