GU/Y61 TD42 Fan Blade and Viscous fan supplier Cape Town
I just picked up a fan blade for my 1998 TD42 GU/Y61. I got it from Grant at Autofans out in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town. I took my fan off, just in case, before I went. It was R513 (as opposed to the R1500 or something that Nissan wanted) and is an EXACT copy of the fan that came off my truck. They have TONS of different automotive fans. If you're looking for a fan blade, I reckon they're a good place to start. Btw I have no links to Autofans and I'm not trying to "sell" them, they're just one of the place I found who actually could supply me with the blade. I tried Nissan Spares , but they were out of stock and wanted R750 for a 2nd hand fan blade.

Wes, out of interest, what was the issue that you needed a new fan blade? Is this the first time it's been replaced?

Hi,
It's the first time I've replaced it, but after 360,000km's I figure it's due. A crack had developed inbetween the blades and it had grown in the last 5000km's or so. Once these cracks form, fans tend to suffer catastrophic failure afterwards. Considering the size of these fan blades, I reckon it wouldn't be very pretty is that happens at 3000rpm in your engine bay. Check your fan blade, the cracks develop on the ring in the centre (see pic below...this isn't mine, but I had the same issue...just fewer cracks)

SRXY,
I know you said that the fan is an exact copy of the original. However I have to ask the question...IS THE FAN BLADE OUTSIDE DIAMETER EXACTLY THE SAME? I considered buying a fan from them for the 4.8. They also claim that it would be the same but at the end the outside diameter was about 8mm smaller. That 8mm made a massive difference in effectivity and I had to revert back to a original part (which I eventually imported from Aus because Nissan could not supply). The 4.8 has a very high demand for fan efficiency and the design of the cowl and the blade as a combination is critical to prevent overheating.

Outer diameter, inner diameter, mount hole spacing, irregular blade spacing and blade thickness were exactly the same as the original one. I took my blade in with me to make sure it was a 100% match. I wouldn't have taken it if it wasn't. The guy said he had 10 different types of Nissan fan blades and that it would be best if I bring the original blade in with me, because it would seem the don't have a listing of what fan actually goes on what truck. The fan that matched my TD42's blade was marked F64...whatever that means.JG Shields wrote:SRXY,

I fitted it last night and the truck runs as cool as ever...I'll take it for a spin tonight and make sure everything checks out...I can't see any issues thoug.
I'm not surprised about the 8mm making a difference on your truck...a 4.8 petrol engine must pump out a lot of heat. Kinda makes you wonder how things will go if you take it on a long dusty trip through south/central Africa? Things with that kind of tolerance freak me out....
oh and btw.....asking a question in capitals is for lunatics and tourettes suffers...

Srxy,
Ok now I am going to piss on all of yours batteries!!!
Firstly Srxy - I don't know where you got that photo of the fan blade from but that is my photo and was the fan blade that came off my 3.0 DI !!!!
I think you are committing plagerism (or whatever they call it!!!) -
And now for the best part - I bought my brand new fan EXACT same model as that one from Moag's in Elsiesrivier for R150-00!!!!
I think you guys need to shop around a bit more for better prices!!!
Regards
