Re: New 76 series

I haven't found a torque curve either, they seem to have gone out of fashion. When we were young men, spec sheets were all about power and torque and gearboxes and stuff, now it all seems to be about reverse cameras and bluetooth and the kind of driving aids you and me detest when driving off-road. ...

Re: New 76 series

Toyota don't "squeeze the max out of" anything. They are known to be quite conservative in terms of engine tune. They have introduced technology (coatings and materials mostly) that increase the max that can be squeezed out, and I am willing to bet that, if one doesn't care about longevity...

Re: New 76 series

I don't know what happens under 1200rpm, but at that RPM it has a hell of a lot of torque! Probably 3 times as much as my TD42. But most of my wheeling is done at 6-800rpm, and it's quite possible that the Toy's turbo is also not working yet at that RPM. In terms of durability, temperature is the ki...

Re: New 76 series

I said it yesterday on 4x4 community and I'll say it again here.

I think a Toyoty 4x4 owner can be compared in one aspect to a 1936 German Nazi.

The brainwashing is complete and un-assailable.

Not saying they are bad vehicles, but in my opinion they are certainly not superior to all others either.

Re: M-Tech Communication Antennas

Personal opinion from a dynosaur: Radios are not really necessary for convoy use if proper convoy discipline is adhered to. Yes it's handy, but if everyone can see the vehicle behind them a message can quite quickly be passed up the convoy just using lights or the hooter in extremis. Where a radio b...

Re: Y60 Rear Bumper and corner chop

Ian and I and some guys from 4x4 Community did Piesangkloof yesterday.
While it's not the toughest track out there it has it's moments. So far I am very happy with the extra clearance of the bumper and the new sliders. I never touched once despite tacking the toughest lines I could find.

Re: Why Manual Hub

What's the maximum speed do you think one can do with hubs are locked? Sometimes in on and off situation we may drive on tar. Erm, you drive a 4.8 hey? What can they do? 180? 200? Whatever it is, you can do it with the front hubs locked. To be clear, the one advantage of un-locked hubs is supposed ...

Re: Why Manual Hub

So with manual hub we can shift from 2H to 4L on the fly even though the hub is set to manual? This is handy. There is no Manual setting on the manual hubs. Only Lock and Free. With manual hubs locked, you can shift to 4H at any sane speed, providing you are not spinning wheels. With manual hubs on...

Re: Y60 Rear Bumper and corner chop

A teaser for the swing arm: IMG-20240201-WA0023.jpeg However, note that only one spare can be carried, as there isn't really room in the bumper for lights. There isn't enough room between the body-mounted lights for two spares. The main reason I am putting the carrier around the back of the wheel is...
