Re: Diff lock light?

Re: Diff lock light?

Diff lock light should light up (i.e. Not blink) when rear diff is locked. It is best to select LOCK setting on auto hubs when doing serious off-road work. In the AUTO setting, the hubs can lock and unlock under torque reversals, leading to shock loads that can be damaging. I used the AUTO setting f...

Re: Drivetrain vibrations

Clem, worn universals oe a worn slip joint can aggravate vibrations, but it should not make a difference which side the splined end is mounted. Phasing of the universals can also play a role, but the bottom line is that the suspension and driveline geometries used at the front in the Y60/Y61 Patrol ...

Re: Load compensator?

No, the older style ABS does not have electronic brake force distribution functionality. The old style ABS will still prevent wheel lock-up, but that is not really the point: in order to get the best possible brake performance, the brake force at each axle needs to be in proportion to the vertical l...

Re: Drivetrain vibrations

Then I would search for the root cause in the drive train. Now the question is whether it is coming from the front or the rear and to help clarify this, you need to establish whether it also happens when the front propshaft, ring & pinion and sideshafts are stationary, i.e. when the front autohu...

Re: Drivetrain vibrations

Me thinks it could be a bearing setup problem . Wheels wabble a bit . Take for balance check bearing set up .... :mytwocents: Biggles, can you feel the vibration in the steering? If so, it might have something to do with the wheel bearings or king pin pivots, but if the vibration is like a growl or...

Re: Drivetrain vibrations

Hubs are def on auto. I did not lock them when on the trail. To be honest I wanted too but forgot and then i remebered it was going so well i did not bother, I did not feel that they unlocked at any point. So eliminating the front propshaft would leave rear propshaft balance? Are you sure that the ...

Re: Drivetrain vibrations

Yes, the AUTO position of the hubs is fine for light duty use, but when the going gets tougher, it is best to select the LOCK position to prevent the generation of shock loads due to unlocking and relocking when torque reversals are experienced.

Re: Load compensator?

That would be the load compensator valve that regulates the amount of brake effort generated by the rear brakes according to the load in the rear (as measured by rear suspension deflection).
