Dolf if you loosen the bottom end of the shock and stroke it fully a couple of times you should easliy be able to tell if the shock is tired or not. If it feels jerky or the resistance changes as you stroke it, the shock is tired. If it feels fine, set it stiffer and go for a drive?

Kobus the fuel pumps are entirely different.
The 4.2's pump is a mechanical unit mounted on the engine block.

Christo, most of us just climb onto the spare wheel.
You can even get (or make) a nice little strap-on two-step ladder for the spare wheel.
You can also attach a ladder to the small door, but I don't think it's worth it.

Talk to Tinus Lotz, he does exactly that.
As far as I can tell, it fixes all the problems you mentioned, and the only disadvantage is that your flex is reduced when they are pumped up.
