Carnage Canyon 18-21 March 2023
Carnage Canyon consists of two days of intensive rock crawling. It is generally regarded as one of the toughest 4x4 trails in Southern Africa. For long wheel based vehicles bare minimum is 35" and rear locker. But to make to "the Beach" at the end of the trail is unlikely for a long w...

Re: Overlanding - Namibia
That I forgot to mention. I have mixed feelings about Maxxis. On one occasion, I had a puncture on one tire where a nail got into a space between the treads in the centre. Just a few km's after Ethosa there was a side wall damage. Obviously I had to inflate the tire after gravel. I am not sure how ...

Re: OM606
The OM606 is a great engine, but not my first choice for rock crawling.
In that regard I still think the TB48 is the most versatile for Patrol applications

I have driven that hill before.
It very much depends on the conditions of the day how hard it is. It seems like it was dry and dusty for you, which made it slippery.

Re: True costs of having a Petrol vs Diesel
Engine performance is for me a slightly different topic. As far as low rev torque is concerned, in my view nothing beats a petrol carburetor. But it needs a right foot feathering it, which a big diesel doesn't. So, even if a TD42 has less torque, not having to feather with your foot changes how you ...

The costs of having a Petrol vs Diesel
Recently I have been chatting to a friend who drives a petrol model Cruiser bakkie that's been rigged for touring. He was complaining about his consumption, (around 5 and sometimes less than 5 km/l in traffic). And it made me wonder again why the TB48 gets such a bad rap. The EFI 4500 is notoriously...
