Re: Me and bad habits!

Thanks for keeping this thread updated, its been very interesting. I haven't read from the beginning again, so I may have missed it, but, why did you decide to go the turbo route? I get the idea you're a man after simplicity to avoid any issues overlanding - I would have thought an NA motor would h...

Re: Me and bad habits!

OK, so I now see why you went that route. What would the financials have looked like if you sold your bus and bought an original Y61 TD42 and fitted a turbo to it instead? You would then also have had a later model vehicle.... Even assuming that such a car could be found, the problems with that app...

Re: Me and bad habits!

A little bit about the reasons and fiancial implications involved: Some history to start off with: The original TB42 suffered a cracked cylinder head at about 280k km. I firmly believe that was due to repeated over-heating, mostly before I owned the car. After buying it I soon realized that it had n...

Re: Me and bad habits!

The hardest part was installing the turbo and intercooler. Tinus got me a great deal on an HT18 turbo and it's exhaust manifold (the standard Nissan units found on the last TD42 GU pickups). This was refurbished (all it needed was a new set of seals) and I polished the inlet and exhaust manifolds. T...

Re: Me and bad habits!

The actual conversion process to convert from the TB42 to the TD42 is actually quite simple. According to the manual, the TB42 and TD42 Y60's use the same gear and diff ratios. I replaced the gearbox on mine because, on a trip to Botswana in 2012, the gearbox got some water in, and I only discovered...

Re: Me and bad habits!

Well, a fair amount of water has run under a fair number of bridges... The current situation is that the car is currently running. But tomorrow poor Michael is sacrificing a holiday to help me replace the clutch, as the clutch is slipping. It felt fine on the engine before we stripped it out of the ...

Re: My 4.5 GU officially a 4.2 Diesel now

Geluk Sean Hoop hy gee jou baie myle se plesier!

Re: Charging caravan batteries

I disagree slightly. Your alternator needs to charge (at least) 3 batteries. In a normal electrical system, the voltage is the same throughout the system. Even the smartest alternator can't give some batteries more voltage than others. Now the problem is that different types of batteries require dif...

Re: TB48 Condenser Fan Hack for high-speed.

I am not really too clever with this, but I don't think you can put too much power into the relay.

However, it may be safer to just install an additional relay directly to the fan?
