Not sure if this applies to the Patrol, but I had the same problem on a vehicle that I had many years ago. It was the drain pipes that were blocked and nothing to do with seals and gaskets.

My 1998 4500 GRX has 351 000 km. Replaced exhaust twice, latest is stainless, 3 sets of tyres, one starter motor, one cooling fan, one radiator recore, replaced electric wiring to fuel pump. Now planning to redo carpets and seats as they are stuffed and fix the bullet hole in the door after a botche...

I have exactly the same problem, and will overhaul the hubs as this seems to be the cause.

Great post, my hubs are in desperate need of an overhaul - probably never been done in 17 years and 350 000km! One side make a horrific noise after being in 4wd and going to 2wd. Grating noise for a few seconds then a loud clunk, then all okay.
