Just following on from my earlier post.... once the bearings are replaced, the shims are only there to get the load set up ( Nm ) of the bearings to spec. So in some instances one may find that with the new bearing the shim is not needed to get the correct preload tension.

Yip, mine is also the GL, with only main tank. The needle has to drop to just on the "E" line before the orange light comes on..... I make big poo's when I see that light come on..... bleeding a 4.2 diesel if it runs out of diesel is not going to be fun, unless you have a lift pump fitted

Yeah I agree, removing the shims is the last resort. Wheel berarings need to be checked and torqued to the correct spec first off. Then the rubber bushes all round the front and rear suspension could be worn out and have just too much play on them. You may not feel it by wiggling things around, but ...
