Re: Recommended diagnosis sparky in Cape Town??

It needs to be fixed or smokkeled long enough to get me through roadworthy. To smokkel it is easy enough. Before I redid the wiring for the passenger SRS I bridged the airbag plug with small resistor under the seat. The resistor legs conveniently sit snugly in the plug. I can't remember the exact r...

Re: Strap behind rear (middle) seats??

You use them to secure the seats when they are folded forward. Strap goes around the "O-flip handvatsel" on the pillar behind the driver door.

Re: Bfg en Cooper tyres

I've got the more affordable tyres and am happy with them, if something goes wrong it won't cost more than a week's wages to replace. The reason I bought the Patrol is because almost everyone buys land cruiser, nike, etc I'm not brand conscious, I inherited my road car from my wife. I'm more than wi...

Re: 2-way radio mounting

Hi Spike, I fitted 1 VHF radio recently for a trip into Botswana. My OEM radio/cd shuttle was giving problems at the time, so I removed it and replaced with a single din radio and then fitted the VHF below. Anthony did a sterling job and it works great and looks super neat. A7ED2316-4979-49DF-866C-F...

Re: Brake light switch: OEM only or is there an aftermarket option

Should be able to get it at thew local Midas. Take it out and take it along as a sample. Some years ago, my Alfa had a similar problem, and I found the BL switch was the same for just about all the Continental cars, Alfa, VW, Opel, MB, BMW etc. If the thread where it screws in and the locking nut fi...

Skeleton Coast, Several Dirt Passes and More Southern Namibia

I was lucky enough to recently to be assigned to a project in Windhoek. A little bit of negotiation, and I managed to arrange that I drive through and I'd be reimbursed for petrol money up until the sum of what the flights would have cost... Worked with a reason - because, since I'd be stuck there o...

Re: Sam Eyles (youtube patroller)

I follow him but i gotta be honest i can't stand his style of over-the-top presentation, thinks the sun shines out his ass. Anyway, i just watch it for the Patrols  full disclaimer... he is very knowledgable on mechanics and electrics, no doubt about that. He's an electrical engineer by tra...

How to select a VHF Radio Antenna

This is a subject that bears some discussion - and the reasons for selecting the correct antenna for any VHF radio. The following applies mainly to the two ORRA frequencies currently in use. --- The most common types of VHF antenna are the Zara range. There are two types that concern us here: * Zara...

Patrol dash removal

Nissan refuted or nearly refuted my claim on the dashboard removal and their argument at the time was that the PO missed an oil service. I never knew being late for an oil service is the main cause for a bubbling on a dash. I decided to remove it myself. Tools needed 10 mm spanner and small socket. ...
