Skottel Braai

Post by Izak »

HHello

I need a bit of advice please.

In anticipation of this weekend's short holiday in Kruger we decided to clean and test all the gas equipment this weekend. While busy with that we decided to do the Kruger Brunch thing on the Cadac Skottel Braai. The Skottel is a great invention but impossible to do more than one fried egg at a time because of the shape.

So I took a flat bottomed steel camping pan (This thing is about 5mm in width and fits very nicely in the skottels gas braaier area). After about 15 minutes on the flame the gas braaier collapsed. From the pieces it looks as if the piece of steel lying on top of the flame made the aluminium to hot and it melted or became so brittle that it broke.

My question is if this has happened to anybody before and should this even be possible to heat that aluminium part to the extent that it melts?

I will take some photos tonight and post it tomorrow.

Regards

Gee whiz Izak, never heard of that happening before. I have a cadac skottel which I use from time to time but switched to an Avla 3 burner fitting with a cast iron top... griddle one side and flat the other which does eggs etc well.

Hope someone can shed light on what caused the issue you have described.

Regards,

Peter

The burner seems to be bending down, might be from the heat??
