Dirk's Patrol gets even more TLC!
PART 1
Dirk se bul bostrok spent some time in my garage again.
His EGT Probe was acting up and needed replacement
The oil pressure sender was broken and needed replacing
Because his center arm rest console was removed to fit a fridge, the wing mirror adjustment switch was just laying on the floor. He also needed a place for his fridge monitor. A solution to this had to be worked out.
He also decided to take the plunge and have his doors lined with CLD (constrained Layer Damping) which many know by a popular brand, namely dynamat. There are many brands and I have used most of them over the years including Dynamat, Second Skin's Damplifier pro and STP Black silver. They're all good.
I also added the use of some low density foam in the door panels to reduce rattles.
there were a few other bits and pieces too.
Heres the Pics...
the new Oil pressure Switch
Oil pressure switch fitted
New EGT Probe fitted
Yaayyy EGT Probe works!
Now to deal with the "situation" between the seats. I notice there's space next to the gear lever to fit the wing mirror switch and the fridge controller. I also notice the distinct absence of cup holders!. So I decided to use the gap between the fridge and the consol as a spot for a cup holder.
I removed the cover and cut a slot for the switch. Quite tricky because the material the cover is made of is thin and brittle. it has already been repaired with fiberglass.
the switch is in and I used velcro to hold the fridge monitor in place. It couldn't be permanently mounted because it runs on batteries and the panel to remove them is on the back of the monitor.
Now to build the cup holder. 12mm Marine ply was used. a basic design leaving space for the handbrake lever was mocked up.
parts cut and drilled
test fitting the new assembly
I gave it a few layers of spray paint and clear lacquer then glued down some rubber which will be durable, washable and wont rattle when theres a cup/tin in the holder
and its done
Dirk was annoyed with his bonnet moving enough to be annoying so I glued rubber washers onto the worn bonnet stops.

Re: Dirk's Patrol gets even more TLC!
PART 2 of 2
Now to start with the Damping in the doors. 8 Sheets of STP Black Silver was used
the surfaces must be cleaned before the material is applied. Enter cloth and methylated spirits. No Tinus, the cloth is not to filter the meths for drinking!
Then the really dirty job of cleaning the surfaces. Inside and out. My fat hands struggled with this part. GU doors are easier because there's more space.
this is the driver's door before I start
The Damping is stuck onto the surfaces and pressed down with my high tech applicator (aka. my own range of shaped pieces of wood). Driver's door done. 100% coverage isn't necessary, however, if you are applying a noise blocker, 100% coverage would be essential.
Rear door on driver's side done...
Now the Low density foam application to the door cards. First clean the surfaces.
Cut foam to size
Apply a layer of contact adhesive to the door card
Lay the foam on the glue and press down. Then put the panel back
the seat cover on the drivers side had shifted towards the center so I pulled on it to shift it. Oops! I tore it. Badly. Have to replace it.
I had another one made and fitted it
The rev counter was not working and that is just wrong. so I traced the fault to some badly repaired wires near the plug above the intake manifold. I took the plug apart and soldered new wires in place
The boost gauge display is set back quite far in the gauge and from the drivers seat you couldn't see it nicely so Dirk asked me if I could angle it towards the driver a bit

Re: Dirk's Patrol gets even more TLC!
It was known as "Grant's Patrol" and soon it will be know as "Anthony and Michael's Patrol that they lends to Dirk for trips"
Seriously though it is looking better and better with all the attention to deal.
What was the reason for the Dynamat and foam in the doors?

No no no.
Getting it back Saturday morning and then it is just normal service...... touch wood.
Better sound and to get rid of any rattles in the doors.

My logic for better sound would have been to Dynamat the inside of the outer door panel and not the outside of the inner panel but I am sure Anthony will have an answer that I have not thought of.

Dave you are 100% correct. The outside skin and the inside skin were done. Here's a little clip of my suffering:
