Source for Y61 REAR Brake Pads

Post by Gerrit Loubser »

The rear brake pads on my Y61 4.5E GRX Patrol will need replacing soon, so I have been doing some homework to find replacement parts.

The agents want more than R1000 for the rear pad set :surprised: .

Ferodo only does pads for the front (Ferodo part number FDB1577)

There are locally manufactured pads (Safeline) that fit. Does anyone have experience with these? Are they any good? From their online catalogue (http://www.safelinebrakes.co.za/brake-p ... tml#Patrol), it seems that there are two possible sets of part numbers:
Patrol 3.0Di (All Models) 2000- Front D3384, Rear D3386
Patrol 4.5 4 x 4 S/Wagon 1998- Front D3382, Rear D3383
Patrol 4.5 GL, GRX (All Models) 2000- Front D3384, Rear D3386
Does anyone know whether my 1999 4.5E GRX with disc brakes all round will take D3384 and D3386 or D3382 and D3383?

I also found pads that will work in the REMSA online catalogue (http://www.remsa.com/catalogo_pormarca.php). The REMSA part numbers are 711.04 for the front pads and 317.12 for the rears. Does anyone know whether the Spanish REMSA pads are available locally and where?

Hi Gerrit,

I just fitted Ferodo Premier Platinum series pads to the rear of my 1998 Y61 TD42 Gl Trol.

The part number was FDB1455-PLA. Don`t remember the exact price, but it was in the region of R350 for the set. Some minor trimming was required to fit them (my mechanic did the fitment, but as far as I understand the one corner of the steel backing requires a slight trim for them to fit into the trolls calipers), but they work fine.

I`m not sure how similar the 4.5GRX rear disks are to the 4.2D GL`s though. If you can take a sample down to your nearest Ferodo re-seller, you will be able to tell strait away if the part number listed above will work for you.

Good luck, hope you come right.

Herrie, how do you find those Safeline pads? Are they quiet? How is the brake power? Do the generate a lot of brake dust? How long will they last?

Gerrit, I do not think it is Safeline. These were the only ones available and there is no dust, they brake well and are quiet. Replaced them in Kasane (by chance took them with on the trip) in November so still need to see how long they will last.

Thanks Herrie. I assumed they were Safeline, because the part number is the same as the Safeline number. What brand are they?
